-
- I purchased a 33.6 9/19/95 ROM - equipped Sportster about a month ago.
-
- Its ROM is incredibly buggy, and I would say that if you are happy
- with your 28.8, stick with it and USR 33.6 be damned until they get the
- bugs worked out.
-
- I corresponded with USR about getting a patched ROM, but I have not heard
- back from them. I really hope they are not planning to charge an "upgrade"
- fee for those of us who have been unfortunate enough to get stuck with
- the 9/19/95 ROM.

-
- Well, as I said above, the 33.6 ROMs shipped to stores are no great prize.
- Bugs include:
-
- - a complete lockup (needing as OS reboot) if you type ATI6
- once someone hangs up on you.
-
- - degraded line statistic reporting
-
- - lack of the "disable v42 detect phase" s-register setting, making it
- impossible to establish a v42 connection with certain Rockwell-based
- modems.
-
- - Rockwell-USR downloads which run progressively slower, usually under MNP,
- as the v42 link cannot be established because of problem above. Eventually,
- the link fails completely. Line quality is known to be good, as other
- brand modems have no trouble (and neither did the 28.8 USR ROM).
-
- - Data throughput speeds lower on certain connections than the 4/19/95 28.8
- USR ROM delived.
-
- - Intermittent inability to detect when the line has been hung up.
-
- - Intermittent lockups for no apparent reason, necessitating an OS reboot.
-
- >I've seen messages in this group saying from various usr people to people
- >claiming oh it'll ship this week, mid-february, etc.
- >What's the truth. Will it ever come out?
-
- The truth is they are probably trying to get the bugs worked out, but won't
- admit it. I just hope that USR ships me a bug fix ROM for this thing...
